The media discusses guns after school and neighborhood shootings! The media discusses violence after businesses are destroyed during street violence! City leaders must shine a light on solutions beyond more laws, police, security cameras and military equipment!
The question I have been asking for 35 years…When do we focus on PREVENTION? Americans want safe neighborhoods for children and families. “We the people” can make neighborhoods and parks safe for everyone.
I was invited to NY to do this interview, STOPPING VIOLENCE with Bill Moyers in 1995. Today, we have lots of information why “Neighborhood Watch” needs to be updated into a citywide project, not just a police program. The police have many limitations!
Social isolation is killing us! As technology increases, will the younger generation know why it is important to build trust and work with neighbors? Dependency on police to keep Americans safe, is a myth. The national average is 2.6 police for every 1000 citizens. It is up to city leaders to educate residents on why neighbors are critical for preventing juvenile bad behavior, bullies, thefts, assaults, drug dealers, gangs and shootings!
Cities need trained, paid citizens to become, “Neighborhood Safety Experts.” They can be hired from within the community. They should look like and speak the language of the neighborhoods. Their job is to educate and bring neighbors together. When citizens take responsibility for neighborhood safety it has been proven over and over again, involved neighbors can keep families safe.
Why hire and train “Neighborhood Safety Experts? Read this proposal including benefits to the community. Safety will greatly improve when city leaders take steps to bring neighbors together. Let’s strengthen American families to ensure the safety and future of our children.
